Traffic accident

An officer reported being out with a car-vs.-deer accident, Wednesday morning at Highway 92 and Spruce Avenue in Washington. An additional officer also responded. The driver was given a state accident report to fill out. Moore’s responded and towed the vehicle at the owner’s request. Vehicle operator was Rhonda West.

A caller Wednesday morning at 245th Street in Ainsworth reported that a truck hit his tree, then hit a hedgerow. This happened on Tuesday night about 9:30 p.m. A windshield wiper was left behind. An officer responded and reported that a small bush had damage from the vehicle going through the yard. The information was documented.

A caller Wednesday afternoon at Vine Avenue and Highway 22 in Riverside reported being involved in an accident west of the casino entrance about one-fourth mile. There were no injuries, and the roadway was not blocked. The vehicles were a Honda Odyssey minivan and a GMC SUV. An Iowa State Patrol officer responded and handled the accident.

A vehicle went through the windows of the business of “The Shop,” Wednesday afternoon at B Avenue in Kalona. The vehicle operator was Jack Draper, of Washington. Draper was cited with failure to maintain control and no insurance. A state accident report will be filed.

A caller early Thursday morning at Highway 218 and 56 Street SW reported a car-vs.-deer accident. An officer responded and gave the subject a state accident report to fill out. The vehicle was drivable.

Traffic other

A caller Wednesday night at West 15th Street and North Marion Avenue in Washington reported that there was a truck parked in a driveway on North Marion Avenue that was partially in the roadway. An officer responded. The truck was right at the edge of the roadway, and the officer intended to speak with the subject in the morning.

Disabled vehicles

A vehicle was reported on the side of the road with its flashers on, Wednesday night at Highway 218 in Riverside. An officer responded. The vehicle was unoccupied and was added to the system.


A caller Wednesday morning at E Avenue in Kalona reported a burglary across from the John Deere store in Kalona. An officer responded. A report will be filed.


A caller Wednesday afternoon at 155th Street in Wellman reported that the county damaged his hard maple tree in his yard, and he would like to file a complaint. An officer spoke with the caller, and he was referred to Jacob Thorius for documentation purposes.

All other offenses

A caller Wednesday afternoon at F Place in Kalona reported a complaint about a newspaper delivery person. An officer spoke with a caller and left a voice mail at the business to speak with someone. They were going to attempt to speak with the delivery person in the morning to see if they could help her. The newspaper personnel did call back in and speak with Dispatch. They agreed to speak to the new delivery person.
