Search for new Washington Police Chief underway

The search for a Washington police chief is on after current Chief Greg Goodman has announced his retirement on May 31, 2019, after 34 years on the force.

A committee has been formed, which consists of Washington Mayor Jaron Rosien, city council member Danielle Pettit-Majewski, City Administrator Brent Hinson and two community representatives. Additionally, there will be a police panel to help advise the committee.

The open hiring process will include internal and external applicants who will interview with the committee and police panel on skills and knowledge, as well as tour and have strategic discussion with Hinson and Chamber Director Michelle Redlinger.

Advertising for the new chief is to begin Wednesday, Feb. 6, with an application deadline of March 12. Finalists will be interviewed April 1 and a special meeting will be held April 9, to consider confirmation of the new hire. The tentative start date for the new chief is by May 28.
