Thursday’s Class 1A opening round of the area’s Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union postseason was postponed a day due to more polar weather gripping the state.

Iowa Mennonite School hosting Iowa Valley, Keota hosting English Valley and WACO hosting Winfield-Mt. Union were all postponed until tonight.

Suzanna Yoder leads Iowa Mennonite (9-10) in a Class 1A first-round regional clash with Iowa Valley (5-14). Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. Friday at rural Kalona after the IMS boys play a doubleheader against, starting at 4 p.m. against HLV.

Yoder, a senior, is averaging 27.3 points per game. Only one player — West Des Moines Dowling’s mega-recruit Caitlin Clark (31.9 ppg) — scores at a higher rate. Nobody in 1A is close.

IMS is enjoying its best season since 2013-14 when it finished with a 14-10 record. Olivia Yutzy led that team with averages of 18 points and 8 rebounds a game.

Yoder has been the team’s top scorer each of her four years on the varsity team, and has scored 1,507 points in her career.

WACO (7-15) hosts W-MU (4-16) at 7 p.m. in Wayland. WACO won two earlier games by the scores of 47-20 and 50-32.

Clara Schmitz leads the Warriors with 7.1 points a game. Kristen Conley leads in rebounds per game at 4.2. Aubri Garnsey hands out 2 assits per game.

English Valleys takes its 4-14 record to Keota (8-12) for a 7 p.m. tipoff.

Keota owns a 41-36 win over EV Dec. 4.

Addison Sprouse leads the Eagles in scoring at 12.9 points a game and set the school record for most 3-pointers (7) in a game earlier this season. Paige Thompson goes for 9.9 points a game. Thompson leads the team in rebounds per game at 6.7. Jill Schulte leads the team in assists at 31, but Sprouse has 30 and Thompson 24.

In Class 2A, Highland and Columbus face off at Highland at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Huskies are 14-7 after winning their last two games, but struggled through a 5-game losing streak before that.

Aly Stokes leads Highland in points at 18.2 a game and rebounds at 12 a game. Abbie Miller scores 13.5 a game and grabs 11.7 boards. Stokes doles out 3.4 assists per game.

Anna Hamilton leads the Wildcats (0-18) in points per game at 6.5. Michelle Diaz grabs 3.5 rebounds per game.

Mid-Prairie (11-9) hosts Mt. Vernon (9-10) at 7 p.m. Saturday in Wellman.

Shae Becker leads the Golden Hawks with averages of 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds a game. Myah Lugar goes for 11 points a game and averages almost three successful 3-pointers a game. Kessa Jones hands out 2.7 assists and takes 2 steals a game.
