PAWS & More Animal Shelter in Washington is participating in the 2019 National Clear the Shelters event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17.
The shelter will waive adoption fees and provide same-day adoptions on all cats and kittens currently at the shelter location, with an approved application.
Dog adoption fees will remain in place.
Clear the Shelters is an annual nationwide campaign spearheaded by NBC Universal owned television stations and Hill’s Pet Nutrition. More than 250,000 pets have found homes through this annual event since 2015.
PAWS & More is one of 1,500 animal rescue and shelter organizations across the U.S. and Puerto Rico that are participating in the event.
Shelter Director Amber Talbot said she and the board of directors decided to participate in Clear the Shelters for the first time this year because “Our shelter has so many adorable, beautiful kittens and cats and we want them all to have the chance to a loving home. We want and need to stay ahead of overcrowding and all that comes with that.”
Talbot said that the shelter aims to “let down barriers for people to adopt a homeless cat in need. If our normal $100 fee is a barrier to a person being able to adopt right now, we can remove that barrier on Saturday at least.”
She added that prospective adopters will be screened and have approved applications, as always. Applications can be submitted in advance for preapproval.
“We’re hoping for amazing results on Saturday,” Talbot said.
