Local artist Annie Guldberg is the featured artist for the month of December at the Main Street Art Center located at 106 S. Main St. in Mt. Pleasant.
Her show is a vibrant mix of oil paintings that have become Guldberg’s passion.
“With my heart in the mountains, and feet firmly in the Midwest, my paintings spring from an undeniable need to create and a deep well of passion,” said Guldberg.
Guldberg grew up in Iowa, and then went to Milwaukee for 12 years and then came back to Mt. Pleasant in 2017.
“My husband and I have been really excited about the support for artists here in Mt. Pleasant,” said Guldberg or her opportunity to display at the Art Center.
“This show focuses on the work that I have made in the last couple of years during COVID-19,” Guldberg said of her work on display.
The exhibition is called “Taking Shelter and Expanding Horizons.”
Guldberg explains that her art during the pandemic was not only a source of entertainment, but an opportunity to really grow as an artist.
“My paintings are a mix of feelings, emotions, dreams and real places,” Guldberg said of her work. “The colors, textures and the pumped up vibrant colors kind of lend this dreamlike feel to my artwork.”
Viewing Guldberg’s work is a treat to the senses because she uses vibrant colors and interesting textures throughout her pictures.
“Seeing it online, you might miss the textures that I bring to my paintings,” Guldberg said. “Seeing artwork in person is such a different experience.”
Guldberg’s work has been shown in many galleries throughout the Midwest, and in 2019, she was selected as one of 36 artists across the United States to create a piece depicting women’s suffrage for a project celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
