Bill D. Cobb, 84, of Richland, died early Saturday, March 27, 2021, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield. He was born in Kinross, IA, to Clyde (Ty) and Ileen L. Westphal Cobb. Bill grew up in Harper and Richland and graduated from Richland High School in 1954. He married Sherry Oswalt 62 years ago on September 21, 1958, in Richland. Bill worked for Kaiser Construction, Bob Allen Chevrolet as a mechanic and for Raymond Hadley Chevrolet as Service and Parts Manager, until 1974 when he took over the Standard Oil Business in Richland. He retired in 1995 when his son Mark took over Cobb Oil Company as the 4th generation owner. Bill was active in the community, formerly a member of the Richland Volunteer Fire Department, Richland Commercial Club and Richland Lions Club and currently belongs to the Richland United Methodist Church, Richland Masonic Lodge No. 38 and the Richland Community Club. He loved woodworking, fishing, snowmobiling, and traveling in their motorhome where they spent 20 winters in Arizona and 4 in Alabama. Bill was an avid eagle watcher and loved the many pets they had over the years.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sherry of Richland; son, Mark Cobb (Laurie) of Brighton; grandson, Lee Cobb (Abbie) of Richland; great-granddaughter, Ellie Jo Cobb; and sister, Harriet Stephenson (Frank) of Hickory, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Angela Cobb-Kordek
An open visitation will be held April 7, 2021, at Gould Funeral Home in Richland 3 PM to 7 PM. The family will not be present. There will be no services. Due to COVID-19 concerns, masks are required. Memorials have been established to the Richland Volunteer First Responders, Richland Volunteer Fire Department or Paws & More Animal Shelter in Washington and may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 411 West Main Street, Richland, IA 52585. Gould Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
