MT. PLEASANT—Republican Lynnae Buffington unseats Henry County Recorder incumbent Democrat Mindy Fitzgibbon, Tuesday evening.
Unofficial County vote totals came in with 4,183 for Buffington and 2,534 for Fitzgibbon.
Fitzgibbon currently serves as the Henry County Recorder.
She was selected to fill the role of recorder by the Henry County Board of supervisors in 2017 due to the previous recorder’s retirement.
Fitzgibbon then ran unopposed for the recorder in 2018 and was elected to the position.
Buffington is feeling, “a little nervous, because it’s something new.”
Previously, she worked as the Aquatic Director at the YMCA in Monmouth, Il., but says she lost her job two years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"I was tired of sitting around my house,“ Buffington said.
She is ready to get back into the swing of things with this new position.
