Burdene Lee Morrison, 82, of North Liberty, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 23, 2021, at the Halcyon House in Washington. Celebration of life services will be held at a later date. Interment will be private. A general memorial has been established. Jones & Eden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be sent for Lee's family through the web at www.jonesfh.com.
Lee was born Feb. 25, 1939, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of John Lee and Charlotte Grace (Sands) Morrison. Lee was united in marriage to Shelby Jean Meyer on Nov. 29, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Lee graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1957, where he participated in many sports and music programs. He worked with his father and uncle at Morrison Bros Implement for many years. Lee often played in the family "Morrison Band" and later with "The Britesides" band he formed with Tom Colton. They played the surrounding area dance halls for 20+ years with Lee singing, playing the trumpet and bass guitar. He enjoyed participating in many musicals with the Columbus Junction Community Players, which at times often included his daughter and son. He also spent some time auctioneering.
Lee and Shelby enjoyed living in Arizona for four-plus years returning in 1995 to spend quality time with family and ended up relocating to North Liberty. He then worked for Hartwig Motors and Deery Bros. He collected various scale models of Dodge cars and Mopar memorabilia. He loved golf and a highlight was a four-generation game with his son-in-law, two grandsons and a great-grandson. As an avid Hawkeye fan, Lee and Shelby enjoyed many football and basketball games. They enjoyed eating out and playing cards with their neighbors and catfish dinners with friends. The third Saturday of every month brought a joyful birthday celebration of Morrison cousins to Roberts Buffet in Riverside Casino. Lee was a faithful man who loved the Lord and loved sharing his faith with others. He was a member of Parkview Church in Iowa City, where he sang in the choir and Easter Cantatas for many years. His faith was a huge part of his life along with the deep love for his family.
He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Shelby Morrison of North Liberty, Iowa; daughter, Tami Schweitzer and husband David of Washington, Iowa; son, Tony Morrison and wife Kelly of Windsor, Colo.; grandchildren, Alex (Kelli) Schweitzer of West Branch, Iowa, Cody (Megan) Schweitzer of Las Vegas, Nev., Lynzy Morrison (Trevor DeYoung) of Johnstown, Colo., and Tyler Morrison of Windsor, Colo.; great-grandchildren, Will and Halie Schweitzer; and one brother, Tim Morrison and wife Cindy of Gulf Springs, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Sandra "Betty" Reid.
Lee is now up and walking with the Lord!
