MT. PLEASANT — Iowa Wesleyan University is inviting the public to attend “He Is Coming Soon,” a service of lessons and carols. It is a service highlighting the students of the Iowa Wesleyan Music Department and music performers from within the Southeast Iowa community.
“He Is Coming Soon,” will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. at the Iowa Wesleyan University Chapel Auditorium in Mt. Pleasant. There is no charge for the event; however, reservations are required. Seats may be reserved by visiting iw.edu/carols or by calling 319-385-6215.
“Lessons and Carols is the culmination of an entire season of teaching and learning. It is a true blessing to have the return of something that is so traditional and special for our campus and community, and be able to once again offer a live performance,” said Blair Buffington, director of choral activities and artistic director of the event.
“The concert is based from Anglican services that tell the story of the Nativity, and accompanied with musical selections that further narrate that story,” said Buffington. “There is a variety of music that is being performed. We have four choirs, including the Washington High School concert choir on the Sunday performance. We also will have the instrumental musicians from Iowa Wesleyan University, and the Chamber Orchestra from the Southeast Iowa Symphony that will be performing. Traditional to contemporary music is being performed.
“We want to share a message of hope and peace this year and music is the gift we have been given to deliver that message.”
