The high school football season didn't end for Highland's Trey Lasek with the Huskies loss to eventual state chgampion Hudson in a playoff game.
A week of practice in Carroll was followed by his play in the fourth annual River Battle Bowl Saturday at Gale Wickersham Stadium in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Lasek, listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, played defense in the game and made an interception, but Iowa lost to Nebraska 35-20. The series is tied at 2-2.
Lasek told his high school coach at Highland, Scott Morel, after the game that he didn't get near as tired just playing one way.
'It doesn't hurt as much either,” Lasek told Morel.
Coaches nominated players and had to submit game film for an athlete to get chosen for the team.
'The coaches really liked his ability and thought he has a great chance to play at the next level, maybe as a slot receiver,” Morel said.
Lasix was from one of the smaller schools, although there was one kid from an 8-man team and another from a Class A team, which is what class Highland is.
Even though his coaches for the game were impressed, Morel was not surprised.
'As his coach, that is what we expect out of him,” Morel said. 'We see that ability every day in practice and in games. I know he did really well.”
Lasek told his coach that he laid out one kid in the hardest hit he ever put on anybody.
Lasek has colleges looking at him and received his first official offer recently, but has not decided where he will take his talents when he furthers his education.
