JoAnn Marie Gent, born on August 7, 1937, in Washington, Iowa, peacefully passed away on November 2, 2023, at the age of 86, surrounded by her loving family.

JoAnn was raised on a farm in rural Washington County and graduated from Washington High School. Following high school, she was employed at McCleery Cummings. On February 15, 1958, she married the love of her life, Terry Gent.

JoAnn was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Terry, and their children: Kevin Gent (Linda), John Gent (Cathy), Char Brenneman (Rob), Steve Gent (Susan) and Glenda McWilliams; 15 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Surviving her also are her sisters, Mary Catherine Escher, Donna Mae Moeller, Marilyn (Bob) Nebel, Connie Waters and sisters-in-law, Jane Gent, Donna (Ron) Tinnes, Winnie Gent and Teresa Friese.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Friese, her in-laws, Francis and Irma Gent, her brothers, Robert Friese, Francis Friese, Walter Friese and Willard Friese.

Graveside services and interment at St. Mary's Cemetery, in Keota, Iowa for family and friends will be Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:30 am. The family invites friends to join them in a celebration of JoAnn's life at the KC Hall, Washington, from noon until 2 pm. for a time of food and fellowship. A general memorial has been established. JoAnn will be remembered for her gift of creating a warm, inviting home, always complete with a delicious meal, followed by a yummy dessert. Her kind, gentle spirit and unwavering love for her family will forever be cherished.
