Football is a team game, but the team's success is always easier with talent playing.
Highland High School's quarterback, Trey Lasek, was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player for Class A District 6.
Highland finished third in the district, but defeated the district champion in the playoffs before losing to last year's second-place team in the quarterfinals of the postseason.
Lasek not only led the district, but was second in Class A in total offense with 2,342 yards. He rushed 179 times for 1,323 yards for an average of 7.4 per touch and completed 61 passes in 125 attempts for 1,019 yards. He totaled 28 touchdowns, 18 rushing and 10 passing with seven interceptions.
District champion Durant had the Defensive MVP in Tristan Hughes and the Offensive Lineman MVP in Joe Lilienthal. Connor Reed of Pekin was the Defensive Lineman MVP and Levi Rohr of Pekin was the Kicker of the Year. Dylan Fry of Belle Plaine was the Punter of the Year.
Highland had three linebackers make first team in Brady Hahn, Brody Burton and Cory Stewart. Burton also played center while Hahn was a running back and Stewart a receiver.
Hahn led the district in total tackles with 90.5, 35 solo and 55.5 assisted. On offense, he completed 3 of 4 passes for two TDs and ran 92 times for 620 yards, an average of 6.7 a carry. He caight eight passes for 107 yards.
Stewart had 17 receptions for 361 yards and three TDs. He averaged 21.2 yards per catch.
