Anniversary of a tragedy
Saturday, Jan 22, marks the 49th (and hopefully last!) anniversary of Roe v. Wade and its companion case, Doe v. Bolton, the Supreme Court cases that legalized the killing of our pre-born children throughout all nine months of pregnancy, for any reason.
Since that date in 1973, an estimated 62 million surgical abortions have been performed. What a tragedy! What a tremendous loss to our world! We have a worker shortage everywhere you look - shortage of truck drivers, nursing home workers, teachers. The list just goes on and on. Can anyone see a correlation here? We reap what we sow.
A court case entitled Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization is pending before the Supreme Court, dealing with the constitutionality of a 2018 Mississippi state law that banned abortions after the first 15 weeks of pregnancy. Texas passed a law banning abortions after 5 weeks, 6 days, when a heartbeat can be detected in the child in the womb. It is estimated the Texas law has saved 150 lives every day! The Texas law, though challenged, has been upheld thus far.
We are making progress! On the local level, Jefferson County Right to Life has placed pro-life signs along the four main highways leading into Fairfield. We also sponsor a booth at the Jefferson County Fair displaying fetal models showing the wonders of human development.
Pray for the Supreme Court justices, that they will see that Roe v Wade was faulty legislation. It must be overturned! Pray that we will come to cherish all life - made in the “image and likeness of God.”
And if you were born after 1973, send your mother a thank you note. She could have legally aborted you.
Karen Crossland
President of Jefferson County Right to Life
