The Mt. Pleasant Childcare Center will be starting an after school care program for children in grades kindergarten through fifth grade at Lincoln Elementary School.
“We are currently looking at being available as soon as school gets out at 3 p.m. and being open until 6 p.m., Monday through Friday,” said Kaysee Phelps, director.
Included in the program will be a snack for the children and an opportunity to play and do homework.
“The will have some time to do activities and play outside too,” said Phelps. “The homework will have to be self-guided to start out with.”
“We are opening up this after school program because we found that there was a need in the community for after-school care,” said Phelps. “We expect to have at least 15 spaces available to start with.
“We are looking at starting the program during the first week of February. We do not have a set date as of yet, but we are looking at starting at the beginning of the month.”
The Mt. Pleasant School District will bus children from other Mt. Pleasant elementary schools to Lincoln Elementary, and the program will take place in the Lincoln Elementary gym.
Parents that are interested can go the Mt. Pleasant Childcare Center 304 W. Washington St. to register. There will be a $25 fee to register and then there will be a weekly fee for each child that participates.
“We are trying to provide care to students while the parents are finishing up their work day,” said Phelps.
