Little change for Mid-Prairie football

Mid-Prairie won't see much change from the Iowa High School Athletic Association's addition of a new class for football.
'I am hoping it doesnt move us up a class,” Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh said in January when the news came out of the additional class being 5A. 'I'm not sure why the state is doing this.”
The Golden Hawks remained a Class 2A school, barely. Monticello is the largest in the class with a 301 BEDS enrollment number. Centerville is 299. Mid-Prairie is 294 and Williamsburg 293.
The Golden Hawks new district has just one team different than 2020. West Burlington-Notre Dame moved up a class and Centerville replaced the Falcons. Williamsburg and Mid-Prairie have been together in a district every year since 2013 and the Hwks have lost to the Raiders every one of those years. The Hawks last defeated Williamsburg Aug. 28 2009 by a 21-19 score. Mid-Prairie had a 4-4 record, 3-1 in District 7 in 2020.
The Hawks schedule was affected by the coronavirus but still played eight games.
Although every team made the playoffs last year, a school's history is not credited with a playoff game unless it reached the round of 16.
Mid-Prairie last made the playoffs in 2015 and it defeated PCM before losing to Albia to finish with an 8-3 record. The next year's ledger was 5-4 before consecutive 3-6 seasons.
