Mary Lu (Hayes) Paul was born at Wellston, Iowa, in Washington County on June 21, 1933. She entered her heavenly home on Feb. 14, 2022. She attended Pleasant Plain Elementary School and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1951. In 1953 she married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Paul.

Mary Lu drove a bus for the Washington Schools and was the school mini bus driver for a total of 26 years. She had many fond memories of those young students.

Her hobbies were reading, walking, planning family picnics by the river behind their house, biking RAGBRAI a few years and water skiing hundreds of miles. She was a member of the Brighton Community Church and Brighton Lions Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenney; her parents, Harold and Louise Hayes; brother, Bill; sister, Gloralie; sister-in-law, (Roberta) Sue Durian, one infant grandson, and one infant great-grandson.

She is survived by her brother, Bob, of Lockridge; children Cindy Lewis (Don), Rick Paul (Nancy), Kathy Goedken (Kelly) and Jacky Walker (Doug), 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A family-only graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton at 2 p.m. on Feb. 26. A memorial gathering for friends and family will be held later that afternoon from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the basement of the Brighton Community Church.
