Mary Ruth Case, age 102, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.
Memorial services will be held 6:30 p.m. Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the United Presbyterian Home. Interment will take place at the Goldfield Cemetery in Goldfield, Iowa, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Home. Online condolences may be sent for Mary’s family at www.jonesfh.com.
Mary was born September 26, 1921, in Tanta, Egypt, the daughter of Ralph Todd and Ellen Jeanette (Henry) McLaughlin. Mary received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Westminster College in Pennsylvania, and later attended the University of Iowa Nurse’s Training School and the Queen’s Roll District Nursing School. Mary served honorably in the United States Coast Guard from 1945 until 1946. She was united in marriage to William Case on September 9, 1959, in Broxburn, Scotland.
Mary worked as a Registered Nurse for the University of Iowa Hospital, Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia, and the Assiut American Mission Hospital in Egypt. She worked at the Edinburg Hospital in Scotland until her retirement in 1980.
Mary was a former member of the Old United Presbyterian Church of North America and was currently a member of the Prairie Flower Baptist Church.
She is survived by 7 nieces and nephews: Timothy R. McLaughlin of Jensen Beach, Florida; Rod (Nancy) McLaughlin of Warrenburg, Missouri; Larry (Rachel) McLaughlin of Quinton, Virginia; Sharon (Lyn) Kandel of Millersburg, Ohio; Josie (Rob) Stultz of Swanton, Ohio; Judy (Kevin) Young of Swanton, Ohio; and Jeff (Cheri) Bushong of Battle Creek, Michigan.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband in 1995; and siblings: Robb McLaughlin, Elizabeth Bushong, Margaret Van Meter, and Carl Nieberle.
