Mt. Pleasant boys tennis rolls, girls fall
Panthers split Southeast Conference games against Keokuk

It was a 1-1 day for the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams on Monday in a pair of Southeast Conference matches against Keokuk. The Panther boys crunched the Chiefs 9-0, and the girls fell 3-6.
The Panther boys faced a short-handed Chiefs team, which only brought three players to East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant. The Panthers won all four games played and picked up six points via forfeits.
Owen Vansickel rolled to a 10-4 victory in the No. 1 singles match. Jake Ensminger and Phoenix Watson swept the No. 2 and No. 3 singles matches 10-0 each.
Vansickel and Levi Graber played the only doubles match. They completed another Panther sweep, winning 10-0.
While Mt. Pleasant was cruising in Mt. Pleasant, the Panther girls were in Keokuk looking for their first win.
On the girls’ side, Savana Walls rolled in the No. 1 singles match, taking it 8-1. The only other singles win for Mt. Pleasant went to Gisele Fajardo-Pena, who took the No. 3 match 8-5.
In other singles matches, Melanie Olivas lost the No. 2 match 8-6. Malena Yocum fell in the No. 4 match 8-3. Eva Rounceville dropped the No. 5 match 8-6, and Ellie Situmeang dropped the No. 6 match 8-4.
Walls and Olivas picked up the only doubles win, taking the No. 1 match 8-2. Fajardo-Pena and Yocum fell 9-7 in the No. 2 match, and Rounceville and Situmeang dropped the No. 3 match, 8-4.
Marty Kate Peterson and Audrey Richmond won two shortened junior varsity matches, taking both by the score of 4-3.
The Mt. Pleasant boys are now 2-0 on the year. The girls are 0-2. The Panthers will take on Fort Madison on Thursday, with the girls playing at home and the boys traveling.
