The Tiger Food Pantry at the New London School District recently received a donation of a freezer unit from Wiley’s Furniture of Mt. Pleasant.
“We recently had a freezer go out on us, and that really limits the amount of food, especially meat, that we can get into the pantry,” said Laurie McBeth, a volunteer with the food pantry. “We were surprised that they donated the brand new freezer to us. It is so appreciated.”
Located in the New London Administration Building, across from the New London High School, the pantry receives food from the Iowa Food Bank and private donations. “We have pantry hours on Thursdays from 3:30-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.,” said McBeth. “People simply need to visit the pantry and once a year fill out a form, and then every time they visit they fill out a short form and then they can receive food that we have available. It’s a very simple procedure. You must be a resident of New London to receive food from the pantry.”
“For private individuals who would like to donate, the easiest method is through gift cards that we can use at the grocery store,” said McBeth. “We can then spend the gift card as we need to. Gift cards are just a great way to donate to the food pantry.”
The Tiger Food Pantry will be open on the Thursday, prior to Christmas, and the Thursday, prior to New Year’s Day. They will not be open on Christmas or New Year’s Day.
