Twice weekly card playing friends, Janet Klein and Irene Shutt recently celebrated milestone birthdays.
“I will be 101 on Feb. 7,” said Klein. “And I would like to go out in the spring and play a round of golf with my grandson to celebrate. I love to play golf in New London and at the country club in the summertime.”
Even though spring is a ways off, Klein is looking to the future to find things to keep her busy.
“Everyone asks me what I do to keep going,” said Klein. “I think that it’s because I keep moving. Just keep doing something. If you don’t move, you lose it. I only eat two meals every day, I try to walk every day as weather permits, and I do still have my driver’s license. I get to keep that until I’m 102.”
Shutt marked her 100th birthday on Thursday.
“I think that I will stay at home on my birthday on Thursday, it’s supposed to be too cold to get out,” Shutt said when asked how she will mark the occasion. “I think that I will stay right home a work on a puzzle and stay warm. I like to do those by myself.”
“We usually meet twice a week to play cards,” said Shutt, “We like to play 313, and it’s a game like rummy. So far, I haven’t missed a game. Other than that, I just do my usual stuff that I do to keep going.”
