Narrow interpretation of amendment
LETTER TO THE EDITOR
Sep. 20, 2021 5:13 pm
It is scary and concerning at what is happening to our society today. The Republicans and gun rights activists continue their narrow interpretation to the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution by condoning mass shootings and shootings in our cities every day as they continue to weaken gun laws.
Many gun owners have enough guns and ammunition to supply an army. Why?
Why should anyone feel comfortable in a public setting like a restaurant or retail store where someone is blatantly carrying an exposed gun on their hip? Why?
As the Washington County supervisors approved a Second Amendment Sanctuary County resolution they compound the problem. There is no good reason why they should even do this. Gun rights people will consider it law even if it is not enforceable. There was never any indication that they had requested the opinion of the county sheriff or the Washington chief of police in their decision. Why?
I thought the Confederacy and the pistol-packing Wild West ended more than 100 years ago, but they appear to still exist in the minds of the Washington County supervisors and others. Why?
