Postseason volleyball pairings released

The high school volleyball postseason is fast approaching. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union has released its playoff pairings.

Schools will face elimination and the end of the 2018 volleyball season with a loss starting Wednesday Oct. 17 in Class 4A and 3A while the postseason begins Tuesday Oct. 16 in 2A and 1A.

Washington, which currently has a 7-15 record, starts the postseason with a home match against Keokuk (4-13), a fellow Southeast Conference team it has defeated twice. The Demons defeated league opponent Mt. Pleasant Tuesday on the road.

'Getting another conference win boosts the confidence in the girls and team as a whole,” Washington coach Lexa Mahr said. 'We are excited about postseason play and are looking forward to it.”

Mid-Prairie (6-12) plays at Class 3A's second-ranked Tipton (27-3) in the first round.

Highland (3-15) plays at Iowa City Regina (8-16) in 2A and Columbus (4-25) plays at Wapello (9-12).

In 1A, Iowa Mennonite School (13-12) hosts Tri-County (0-14). Keota (4-12) plays at No. 10 New London (21-7). WACO (12-9) hosts Notre Dame (7-21).

All matches at 7 p.m. unless noted

Regional champions advance to the state tournament Nov. 6-9 at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids.
