Seniors reign in Mt. Pleasant powder puff game
MT. PLEASANT - One of the fiercest rivalries in all of sports history was renewed on Monday at Mapleleaf Athletic Complex at the 2020 Mt. Pleasant Powder Puff game.
The Panther seniors went out on top, defeating the juniors 29-23.
The game looked a little different this year, with many players sporting masks as a precaution against COVID-19. The face coverings didn't hinder the offenses, however, as neither team had much trouble finding the end zone.
The seniors led 23-15 thanks in part to a deep pass from Elli Liechty to Karsyn Lamm in the middle of the first half. That score was sandwiched between touchdown runs by Avery Sutter and Liechty.
The juniors picked up first half touchdowns from Kenna Lamm and Thanh Phung.
Each team scored once in the second half as Sutter capitalized on a trick play, drawn up by the senior football players who served as coaches. Kenna scored once more for the juniors.
The 2020 Powder Puff game kicked off a full week of homecoming celebration, which will be concluded this weekend when the Panther football team hosts fifth-ranked Washington in the homecoming game.
Students will participate in the annual homecoming dance on Saturday.
