Jason Conrad is a Mt. Pleasant woodworker who created a unique chair to raffle off for proceeds that went to the Henry County Veterans Honor Guard. He raised $1,500 for the Guard, a local group that operates on donations from the public.
“I created the chair and my kids and I did all of the work sanding, varnishing, and creating the flag and the stars,” said Conrad. “I do special projects for different events that happen in our area, and I wanted to do something for the Honor Guard.”
“I think that I will continue to do different projects, I have done wooden games for other events. It is something that I enjoy,” said Conrad.
It was a family affair that created Conrad’s ability to raffle off the chair, flyers and tickets were created by his sister, and the flyers were posted at his parents’ hair salon, Conrad’s Hair Care & More.
“The Feather Party is our main fundraiser for the Henry County Honor Guard and all of the other organizations here at the Veterans’ Hall,” said Dean King, commander of the Henry County Veterans Honor Guard in Mt. Pleasant. “And we wanted to have the raffle take place at our event this year.”
As the recipient of the raffle proceeds, the Honor Guard will use the proceeds to help fund maintenance of equipment and uniforms.
“The biggest thing that we do is give military rites to deceased veterans, and we are about 30 people strong. And the bill for doing such things does add up,” said King. “Each uniform is expensive, and we are grateful for the assistance.”
The chair, made by Jason Conrad, with a burned in skull and flag design, was raffled off for proceeds given to the Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
