Companion cattle market bill introduced in U.S. House
Iowa Cattlemen's Association
May. 13, 2022 12:00 am
Rep. Cindy Axne
Rep. Randy Feenstra
On May 3, Reps. Cindy Axne (IA-03) and Randy Feenstra (IA-04) co-led the introduction of the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act in the House.
This legislation is a companion bill to a widely supported Senate version introduced by Iowa’s senior senator, Chuck Grassley, and a group of bipartisan colleagues.
This announcement follows the House Agriculture Committee hearing on price discrepancies, transparency, and alleged unfair practices in cattle markets.
“Last week’s House Agriculture Committee hearing reiterated the need for meaningful cattle market reform. The introduction of the updated Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act in the House is a timely and befitting response from Reps. Axne and Feenstra,” said Bob Noble, president of the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association. “We’ve asked Congress to support a transparent and competitive marketplace with action, and we thank Iowa’s congressional delegation for answering the call.”
