Coble's big day not enough for Warriors

WAYLAND — The WACO football team fell just one score short in a wild shootout in their home opener on Friday. In a game that reached well over 100 points, the Warriors dropped one to Janesville 63-56.

Janesville led 14-8 after the first quarter, 34-28 at halftime and 49-40 after three periods.

Despite the loss, Nik Coble had an unbelievable game. He went 12-20 for 244 pass yards, two touchdowns and 0 interceptions, ran for 54 yards and three scores, and caught five passes for 136 yards and two touchdowns.

Will Edeker threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns of his own, while throwing one interception.

Drew Kissell finished the game with 97 receiving yards and a score. Jaden Williams had 93 yards receiving, and Jalen Collins went for 76 yards on the ground.

Williams led the defense with 11 tackles on the night. Braden Hammond had 8.5.

WACO is now 1-1 on the year. They’ll host defending state champion New London in their homecoming game on Friday night.
