The 2021-22 Washington County 4-H Horse & Pony Hippology Team competed at the Equine Extravaganza Saturday, March 26 and placed fourth overall as a team.
This contest is hosted by Iowa 4-H at Ellsworth Community College.
The club sent a team of junior members to compete. Team members included Paicyn Jacoby of Kalona, Charlee Read of Washington and Bryce Roth of Crawfordsville.
This was the group’s first time competing in this contest.
The contest tested 4-H’ers on several topics involving anatomy, breeds, colors and markings, conformation, digestive, equestrian events, feed, tack and other horse related topics.
According to Jessica Read, volunteer 4-H leader and hippology coach, “The 4-H’ers had a great time, learned a lot and are very motivated to continue their hard work and compete next year.”
In addition to the team placing fourth overall, Paicyn Jacoby, daughter of Matt and Angela Jacoby of Kalona, placed 10th overall in the Junior Division.
