Olds High School alumni gather for banquet

The 77th Olds High School Alumni Banquet was held June 11 at the Swedesburg Parish Hall.

The 2020 banquet was canceled due to the COVID pandemic.

Roger Roth welcomed the 85 guests including over 50 alumni. The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by the invocation.

Following the meal, Fred Roth extended thanks to Alice and Joe Hochstetler, who prepared the meal, servers Ella Kane and her friends, and Monte Kane who fulfilled the role of dishwasher.

Cathy Canby, the widow of Ron Canby, was thanked for keeping computer updates current and Glenda Alvine for recording deceased alumni.

Ron's daughter, Britt, gave a tribute to Ron. Ronna Lorensen read the names of deceased alumni since our last gathering in 2018.

Arvid Anderson from the class of 1942 80th year alumni class gave a presentation honoring his classmates including the class picture.

The 2018 secretary's report was read by Ronna Lorensen. Fred Roth gave the treasurer's report.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 Banquet, the 70-year honored classes included one from the class of 1949, two from 1950, one from 1951, and two from 1952.

The 60-year classes included six from 1959, three from 1960, six from 1961 and four from 1962, which was the last class to graduate from Olds High School. The members of the honored classes were given a red rose.

It was decided that future banquets will include those that attended Olds Consolidated School. Fred Roth and Cathy Canby have volunteered to continue to update computer records.

The evening concluded with visiting and wishes of safe travel.
