Apr. 4, 2023 12:32 pm
Washington State Bank announced that Lucy J. Gamon has been appointed to the bank’s board of directors.
Lucy, a Washington, Iowa native, is serving the last weeks of her term as District Court Judge for the 10 counties of Iowa’s 8A Judicial District.
Prior to her appointment to that position in 2010, she served 17 years as a district associate judge and two years as a judicial magistrate. Before these judicial appointments she worked as a private practice attorney for three different law firms.
Lucy grew up on the Gamon family farm, which was owned by her grandfather John, her father Harold and her uncle Wayne. She was a 1975 graduate of Washington High School, received a B.A. from Cornell College in Mount Vernon, Iowa and graduated from University of Iowa College of Law in 1983.
Prior to her judicial appointments, Lucy served on the Waverly Municipal Hospital Board, was president of the Waverly Chamber of Commerce and served on the board of Waverly-Shell Rock Area United Way as well as being a member of the American Association of University Women.
Lucy’s husband Mark Schmidt has retired from a position in research chemistry for the University of Iowa. The couple has three adult children: Linnea, Lincoln and Grant. Lucy, an avid reader and swimmer, currently resides in Ottumwa.
Lucy will hold the Washington State Bank directorship recently vacated by Dave Birney, who retired from the board after 11 years of service.
