The Fairfield Community School District (FCSD) serves approximately 1,450 students across Fairfield, Libertyville, Lockridge, Pleasant Plain, and the surrounding areas. With a strong commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and community engagement, FCSD provides a well-rounded educational experience that prepares students for success in school, careers, and beyond.
Academic Structure & Programs
FCSD follows a grade-aligned attendance center model:
- Washington Elementary: Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st grade
- Pence Elementary: 2nd–4th grade
- Fairfield Middle School: 5th–8th grade
- Fairfield High School: 9th–12th grade
A comprehensive 4-year-old preschool program at Washington Elementary helps establish a strong foundation for early learning. The district also offers alternative education pathways, including a Success Center, home school options, and a regional career academy partnership with Indian Hills Community College that provides students with advanced coursework, industry certifications, and college credit opportunities.

FCSD is committed to continuous improvement and student success through innovative educational practices, including:
- Leader in Me – A district-wide initiative promoting leadership skills and personal responsibility.
- Early Literacy Initiatives – Focused on ensuring students develop strong foundational reading and writing skills.
- Technology Integration – Equipping students with 21st-century learning tools.
- Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) – Encouraging a positive school climate and student success.
