Fairfield school district fosters growth

Fairfield Community School District provides public education for approximately 1,600 children living in the Fairfield, Libertyville, Lockridge, and Pleasant Plain.
The district vision is captured in the words, “Dream, Think, Lead, Act,” and the mission statement is “One Fairfield where relationships foster growth, protect learners, unlock individual potential, serve every student every day.“
Fairfield CSD offers a variety of academic programs to its students, serving elementary students in grade alike attendance centers with Preschool, Kindergarten and 1st grade in one attendance center, and 2nd-4th grade in an attendance center. The middle school serves the 5-8th-grade, while 9-12th-grade is located at the high school.
Three-year-old and 4-year-old preschool programs provide the first steps in formalized learning to over 80 children at Washington Elementary. Additional programs include a success center, home school, and regional career academy. Teachers strive for excellence by studying data and participating in professional development. Learning opportunities include Leader In Me, Technology, Early Literacy Initiatives, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and data teamwork.
Teachers have leadership opportunities through the Teacher Leadership and Compensation Grant. FCSD is proud to recognize our National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) and educators and administrators presenting at national and state conferences and workshops. FCSD has the honor of supporting several employees representing their areas of expertise by sitting on state boards and organizations.
Fairfield Community School District is proud of the Iowa School Report Card, which shows how each public school performs based on certain educational measures. For the 2022 report, FCSD schools show above the state average in growth and percent proficiency in English Language Arts, post-secondary readiness, and ELP composite. The Iowa School Performance Profiles show student performance and overall acceptable rating to high performing.
Through a regional career academy partnership with Indian Hills Community College, students have increased learning opportunities with college exposure. Students can take Advanced Placement (AP) classes and earn credits toward their college.
Students have had opportunities to perform at the Iowa Thespian Festival at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Theater and receive state and national-level honors in sports, drama, speech, music, dance/drill teams, and leadership positions. Students annually earn the honors of making all-state.
Students have also earned state-level recognition for their artwork, FFA and FBLA. Organizations and clubs meet after school, such as reading, archery, Future Business Leaders of America, Agriculture, and robotics. Involvement is encouraged for all students as it is a way to stay connected and improve talents.
Fairfield area is a learning community where members can access the district’s website at www.fairfieldsfuture.org. The website is for students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. It provides resources for assignments, employees, event calendars, information about the district, and access to online tools and resources. Community members can access live events via the school webpage.
Individuals can sign up for a login and follow Fairfield Community Schools, Fairfield, Iowa. Parents can access Parent Portal to monitor students’ academic progress, attendance, and use the district’s dining system. Parents can also pay fees and add funds to their students’ accounts online.
The Web page contains school and education news, and parents can sign up for email messages and automated phone calls announcing school delays, early dismissals, or cancellations. The Fairfield Community School District board of directors and Superintendent Dr. Laurie Noll oversee the district. Board members, each elected to a four-year term, are Board President Christi Welsh, Board Vice-President Tim Bower, Board members: John McKerley, Mark Porter, Kelly Scott, Margo VonStrohuber and Tai Ward.
