The Fairfield Community School District provides public education for approximately 1,500 children living in the Fairfield, Libertyville, Lockridge, and Pleasant Plain and the surrounding areas.
The district vision is captured in the words, “Dream, Think, Lead, Act,” and the mission statement is “One Fairfield where relationships foster growth, protect learners, unlock individual potential, and serve every student every day.“
Fairfield CSD offers a variety of academic programs to its students, serving elementary students in grade-like attendance centers with Preschool, Kindergarten, and 1st grade Washington Elementary, and 2nd-4th grade in Pence Elementary. The middle school serves the 5-8th-grade, while 9-12th-grade is served at the high school.
A robust 4-year-old preschool program provides the first steps in formalized learning to our youngest students at Washington Elementary. Additional programs include a success center, home school, and regional career academy. Teachers strive for excellence by studying data and participating in professional development. Learning opportunities include Leader In Me, Technology, Early Literacy Initiatives, Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), and Data Team work.
FCSD is proud to recognize our National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT) and educators and administrators presenting at national and state conferences and workshops. FCSD has the honor of supporting several employees representing their areas of expertise by sitting on state boards and organizations.
Fairfield Community School District is proud of the Iowa School Performance Profile, which shows how each public school performs based on certain educational measures. For the 2023 report, FCSD schools show above the state average in growth and percent proficiency in areas such as English Language Arts, post-secondary readiness, and ELP composite.
Through a regional career academy partnership with Indian Hills Community College, students have increased learning opportunities with college exposure. Students can take Advanced Placement (AP) classes and earn credits toward their college.
Students have had opportunities to perform at the Iowa Thespian Festival at the Gallagher-Bluedorn Theater and receive state and national-level honors in sports, drama, speech, music, dance/drill teams, and leadership positions. Students annually earn the honors of making all-state.
Students have also earned state-level recognition for their artwork, FFA and FBLA. Organizations and clubs meet after school, such as reading, archery, Future Business Leaders of America, Agriculture, and robotics. Involvement is encouraged for all students as it is a way to stay connected and improve talents.
Fairfield community members can access the district’s website at www.fairfieldsfuture.org. The website is for students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. It provides resources for assignments, employees, event calendars, information about the district, and access to online tools and resources. Community members can access live events via the school webpage.
Individuals can sign up for a login and follow Fairfield Community Schools, Fairfield, Iowa. Parents can access the Parent Portal to monitor students’ academic progress, attendance, and use the district’s dining system. Parents can also pay fees and add funds to their students’ accounts online.
The Web page contains school and education news, and parents can sign up for email messages and automated phone calls announcing school delays, early dismissals, or cancellations. The Fairfield Community School District board of directors and Superintendent Dr. Stephanie Mishler oversee the district. Board members, each elected to a four-year term, are Board President Tai Ward, Board Vice-President Mark Porter, Board members Christie Kessel, Dave Eastburn, Meghan Dowd-Robbins, Mark Thronton, and Deborah Williamson.
