Fairfield Fire Department responded to an automatic alarm at 8:54 p.m. Thursday at 2701 W. Burlington Ave., Walmart. A one-inch pipe in the southwest corner of the store, part of the sprinkler system, froze, causing the line to separate. Firefighters shut down the sprinkler system and returned to the station at 10:04 p.m.

A semi hauling an oversized load went into the ditch Tuesday in Brighton and blocked traffic at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 78. The truck went into the ditch at about 1:20 p.m. The truck was moved later in the day and both highways were reopened.
