MT. PLEASANT — The Bill Riley Talent Show will return to the Henry County Fair with a variety of talented acts beginning at 7 p.m., Thursday, July 13 in the Wright Pavilion.
According to the rules of the Bill Riley Talent Show, the audience will watch three-minute performances from each amateur performer in two age categories.
Individuals aged 2-12 years old will compete in the Sprouts categories, while older competitors between the ages of 13 and 21 will compete in the Seniors category.
Twins Kara and Kendayl, 11, and sister Meghan Hoover, 9, look forward to performing in the Billy Riley Talent show every year.
“I perform every year because it's an awesome feeling to get to perform for your family, friends and neighbors and show everyone what you have been working on the past year, and there's no better audience than a Bill Riley Talent Show audience,” Kara said.
Last year, Kara performed a lyrical contemporary fusion solo dance to “Can’t Stop the Girl,” which landed her a prequalification to the state fair level, this year.
"I feel it's important for everyone to be able to perform their talent,” Kara said. “You work hard practicing, it’s your passion, go out there perform it, and you may just win a trip to the Iowa State Fair!"
While Kara enjoys performing, she says her favorite part of participating in the Billy Riley Talent show, “ … is probably getting to see my friends perform and to see how much they all have grown in their talents."
“Everyone should come out and watch the show,” Kendayl said. “It's so much fun to see all the different talents and all these talented people need your support."
The Hoover sisters look forward to performing for the Henry County Fair audience.
"The best part is getting to see so many people that I know in the audience, it's awesome to see them smile and cheer for me,” Kendayl said.
“We all need your support,” Meghan said. “Without an audience, there wouldn't be a show."
"You never know if one of those talented individuals could be the next Lady Gaga, Adele or J Lo,” Kara added. “Plus, it so much fun to see so many different types of talent in one show, from dancing to singing to speed painting."
