Henry County Fair has activities for all ages
Jul. 6, 2023 9:19 am
There is no shortage of things to do at the 2023 Henry County Fair.
On Wednesday, July 12, fairgoers can shop for locally produced goods at the farmers market from 4-6 p.m. in the Wright Family Pavilion before sticking around for the Kids’ Pedal Pull at 6 p.m. in the Tractor Headquarters. The Queen Contest will be held in the Wright Family Pavilion at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, July 13, features the Lego Contest Drop Off from noon to 4 p.m. at the exhibit building, followed by the Farm Family Ag Appreciation Meal from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Wright Family Pavilion. The City Band will perform at 6 p.m., followed by the Bill Riley Talent Show at 7 p.m. and finally Movie Night after that.
Henry County Fair Board member Traci Venghaus said the fair has cut back on contests lately because of a need for volunteers, but that the organization hopes to bring back previously held contests like the cupcake contest. She said this year’s Lego contest should be a big draw, and the board hopes to see some great creations.
Friday, July 14 begins with a Farm Service/Agriland breakfast by the Livestock Barns from 7-9 a.m. Mud volleyball starts at 5 p.m., though participants are advised not to wash off in the bathrooms on the grounds. The Truck and Tractor Pull starts at 6:30 p.m. in the grandstand, with a beer garden from 9-11 p.m.
The farmers market returns on Saturday, July 15 from 8-11 a.m., which coincides with the Sinclair Tractor Breakfast by the Livestock Barns. Kids’ activities will run from noon to 4 p.m., and the day will be rounded out with the Demolition Derby at 7 p.m. followed by a musical performance by The Boys from 9-11 p.m., with the beer garden open once again.
On the last full day of the fair on Sunday, July 16, the Wright Family Pavilion will host an adult bags tournament at noon, just before the ATV Rodeo at 1 p.m. in the grandstand. Tractor Headquarters will host a wine and home brew contest at 2 p.m.
On Monday, July 17, the fair concludes with a ribbon auction at 9 a.m.
In addition to the live entertainment all week, visitors to the fair can enjoy some great food courtesy of the vendors on site, who will be selling funnel cakes, corn dogs, barbecued dishes, mini-donuts and more.
