MT. PLEASANT — What is a county fair without a county fair queen? This year’s Henry County Fair Queen will be crowned on Wednesday, July 12 following the traditional contest.
The 2022 Henry County Fair Queen, Chevy Mills, encourages young women to put themselves out there and participate in the program.
“It's a total confidence booster,” Mills said. “It gets you out in front of people and you make a lot of friends and memories. You also get the chance to serve around your community and make a difference.”
Last year’s crowned queens also included Junior Queen Bella Tedrow and Princess Kara Hoover.
This year, the contest says farewell to Summer Mills as coordinator and welcomes a new team.
Sisters Kelsey DeWitt, Kirsten Smith, and Kenna Smith will make their debut as the coordinators at this year’s contest.
Young women between 8-21 years old that reside, attend school, or participate in a 4-H Club in Henry County will compete in the county fair queen contest.
The youngest contestants, ranging from 8-11 years old will compete in interview and party attire categories for a chance to earn the title of 2023 Henry County Fair Princess.
Contestants vying for the crown of Junior Queen will consist of young ladies between 12-14 years old. They will compete in interview, causal wear, and party attire categories.
Young women between 16-21 years old hoping for a chance at the title of 2023 Henry County Fair Queen will bolster their confidence as they compete in interview, casual wear, evening wear, and onstage questions.
To see these contestants giving their best on stage, visit the Wright Pavilion at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12.
“You get to see amazing women compete to make a difference in her community,” Mills said encouraging attendance at the contest. “You also get to see the joy in their faces when they get crowned. Then, later on, see them compete at the Iowa State Fair representing your county. It's an amazing experience to witness, and I'm glad I got to be a part of it this year!”
