The city administrator works closely with the mayor, the city council members, and department heads to implement city policy. The city administrator also deals with city finances, works on major city projects, and researches issues for the mayor and city council members to help them make informed decisions.

The City Clerk’s Office is responsible for the city budget, processing accounts payable and receivable, processing the city payroll, processing alcohol and cigarette sales permits, and selling garbage stickers for the city solid waste collection and recycling programs.

The Mt. Pleasant Public Library has been serving the city since 1875. The library provides access to learning and culture through print books, audiobooks, films, journals, magazines, and eBooks.The microfilm collection includes local newspapers dating back to the 19th century. The library includes a sizable collection of large print and audiobooks for those with sight challenges. The library provides year-round programming for children, teenagers, and adults. Librarians are happy to assist with student and adult research. Services for homebound residents are available.

The Mt. Pleasant Parks and Recreation Department manages seven local parksand the Mt. Pleasant Family Aquatic Center. The department also organizes a variety of athletic leagues for residents of all ages year-round.

The police chief oversees the officers of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and is responsible for law enforcement within the city limits of Mt. Pleasant, including parking, noise, traffic, and sign regulations.

The city’s Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance of city
streets, storm and sanitary sewers, garbage collection, and recycling programs. The department is also responsible for the maintenance of the Forest Home and Old Forest Home cemeteries, as well as the runway and hangers at the Mt. Pleasant Municipal Airport.
