The Building and Zoning Department is responsible for issuing building, sign, plumbing, and electrical permits. The department also researches and enforces building codes and advises the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustments and Community Development Committee.

The police chief oversees the officers of the Mt. Pleasant Police Department and is responsible for law enforcement within the city limits of Mt. Pleasant, including parking, noise, traffic, and sign regulations.

The Mt. Pleasant Public Library has been serving the city since 1875. The library provides access to learning and culture through print books, audio books, films, journals, magazines, and eBooks.

The microfilm collection includes local newspapers dating back to the 19th century. The library includes a sizable collection of large print and audio books for those with sight challenges.

The library provides year-round programming for children, teenagers, and adults. Librarians are happy to assist with student and adult research.
