Parks and Recreation

The 120-acre park includes a three-field softball complex, two shelter houses, a gazebo, picnic tables, restrooms, two playground areas, three sand volleyball courts, a 6.5-acre pond, four lighted tennis courts, five-field soccer complex, nine horseshoe courts and a driving range.

Central Park

Located in the center of the downtown business district is a two-acre park. It has several benches, open areas and is the site of the Edd King Memorial Fountain.

Prairie View Park

This 14.5-acre park is between Linden Heights and East Lake Park. The landscape of the park consists of wildflowers and prairie grasses that can be seen from the bike trail.

Sheaffer Park

The park contains open space and benches, which is ideal for families wishing to play with their children.

McMillan Park

This 40-acre park is home of the Old Threshers Reunion, Henry County Fair and many special events each year. Facilities include a shelter house, swing sets, restrooms, dirt track, game fields and several large buildings that are available for rent.

Saunders Park

This 60-acre park includes the Mt. Pleasant Family Aquatic Center, playground equipment, two shelter houses, two gazebos and a log cabin.

United Thru Play Playground

The United Thru Play Playground is located at the former Saunders School site and includes a shelter and a large wooden playground complex.

Crane’s Pond

This five-acre park includes a shelter house, sledding hill, swings, benches and a two-acre pond for fishing.

Greene Square

This small, residential park includes a half court basketball facility, playground equipment and benches.

Henry County Parks

Oakland Mills Park

This park includes more than 40 camping sites on the north and south sides of the Skunk River, many with 50-amp electric hook up. Facilities include a shower house, picnic shelter, restrooms, a modern fish cleaning station, a trailer sanitation dump station and fishing accesses to the Skunk River.

Water Works Park

This 16-acre multiuse area on the Skunk River features 20 semi-modern campsites, along with 10 primitive sites. A restroom, picnic shelter, water and cooking grills are just some of the amenities found here.

Faulkner’s Access

Located one mile down the Skunk River from Oakland Mills, this 27-acre area offers picnic tables and fire rings. A boat ramp provides visitors with access to the Skunk River.

Stephenson Park

This four-acre park along the Skunk River is a favorite spot for fishing, camping and picnicking. A boat ramp and restrooms are available to visitors.

Gibson Recreation Area

This 240-acre recreation area offers a diversity of habitats for the outdoor enthusiast.

Heron Marsh Youth Hunting Area

This 45-acre youth hunting area is open to those 16 years and younger and accompanied by a licensed adult. Permits may be obtained from the Conservation Department’s Office.

Hoaglin Woods

This area offers 40 acres of rolling hills and hardwood trees with a hiking trail, which enables the nature buff to move around easily through the heavy growth.

Ketchum Switch Recreation Area

Featuring 270 acres, and consisting of predominantly mature timber and native grass covered rolling hills. Ketchum Switch is divided into four quadrants and is a controlled access area. Access can only be obtained by permit, available from the Conservation Department’s Office.

Mud Creek Recreation Area

Mud Creek Recreation Area is a 52-acre multiuse area featuring steeply rolling hills that mellow into a flat flood plain bordering Mud Creek. This recreation area is a favorite place for hikers, nature enthusiasts and hunters. A picnic shelter, restroom and cooking grills are available.

Riverview Disc Golf Course

Located four miles south of Mt. Pleasant, Riverview is the home of the nine-hole Disc Golf Course.

Wayland

West Park

Includes a T-ball field, two pavilions, a basketball court and playground equipment.

East Park

This is a small park featuring half of a basketball court and a shelter house.

Central Park

This park is in downtown Wayland next to City Hall. It includes a playground, the city’s water tower and a public restroom at City Hall.

Lake Geode State Park

The prime attraction of the 1,640-acre park is Lake Geode, a 187-acre lake built in 1950. The park also features hiking trails, picnic tables, shelters, pavilions, a lodge and about 170 campsites.

Salem

City Park

Includes a playground, the city’s water tower and a pavilion.

New London

City Park

Includes playground equipment, basketball court, bandstand, pavilion and the city’s water tower.

Winfield

Winfield Park

This area, located south of the fire station, includes a horseshoe pit, sand volleyball court and shelter house.
