Addington Place creates home-life atmosphere for residents

FAIRFIELD — Addington Place of Fairfield offers its residents the best in assisted living and memory care.
Residents of Fairfield might know the assisted living facility, located at 3000 W. Madison Ave., by its former name of SunnyBrook Assisted Living. That name was changed in December 2021 when the assisted living facility underwent a change in management companies. Today, the company is managed by Jaybird Senior Living of Cedar Rapids.
Josie Heilmann, Addington Place’s Community Relations Coordinator, explained that the business’s ownership group remained unchanged, and still is HTI, which has owned the building since 2008. HTI owns 54 senior living communities across the U.S.
The change in management companies brought a few key changes, such as the addition of music therapy to the firm’s memory care, a dare2dream program to help residents’ dreams come true, a red carpet service, and their own nurse practitioner.
Heilmann said one point the staff at Addington Place wish to stress is that an assisted living facility should not be confused with a nursing home.
“Assisted living is a more homelike environment, while nursing homes tend to be more clinical with set schedules for the resident,” she said. “Residents are encouraged to be as independent as possible in assisted living.”
At Addington Place, residents can count on 24/7 assistance from the company’s resident assistant via push button pendants. Residents benefit from housekeeping, three meals per day, laundry service, in-house spa and beauty parlor. There are opportunities to stay active, too, such as planned activities all seven days of the week, as well as daily exercise. A nurse is on call 24/7 and is in the building five days a week, with a nurse practitioner also on call.
Residents have opportunities to do things outside, too, like through picnics and programs, live music, and outdoor movies during the summer.
Addington Place is in the midst of upgrading several apartments with new floors, and its spa is receiving a facelift. The beauty parlor is scheduled for its own facelift soon, too.
Heilmann said all of these services have attracted considerable demand from the community, and that’s why there is a waiting list to get into the facility’s large apartments. She said memory care is in high demand as well, though potential residents can usually find a smaller apartment available if that is what they wish.
