FAIRFIELD — Since its establishment in 1912, Jefferson County Health Center (JCHC) has been a cornerstone of health care in Fairfield and the surrounding communities. Founded through a visionary $25,000 bond supported by local residents, JCHC has continued to evolve over the last century, expanding its reach and services to meet the needs of Jefferson County and beyond.
The 2009 relocation to its modern facility on South Main Street was a transformative moment for JCHC, enabling the organization to enhance its capabilities and offer more comprehensive services. Today, JCHC provides access to a wide array of health care offerings, from primary care to advanced surgical procedures, with a team of 25 dedicated providers.
Among the most impactful advancements is the growth of JCHC’s surgical services. Patients now have access to General Surgery provided by Dr. Edward Ortell, who offers a full range of procedures including colonoscopies, gallbladder removal, and hernia repairs. Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. AJ Friessen also brings specialized care to JCHC, treating sports injuries, fractures, and joint issues, including total joint replacements. These expert-led services ensure that patients can receive exceptional surgical care close to home.
In addition to surgical expansion, JCHC is proud to now offer diabetes education services, designed to support individuals living with diabetes or prediabetes. Led by Nurse Educator Amy Martin, this new service provides one-on-one education, guidance, and support to help patients manage their health and prevent complications through lifestyle changes and personalized care plans.
Another exciting addition to JCHC’s therapy services is pelvic floor physical therapy, now provided by Brandi Hemsley, PT, DPT. This specialized therapy addresses pelvic pain, incontinence, and other pelvic floor dysfunctions in women and men, filling a critical need for individualized, restorative care in our region.
From its Emergency Room and Medical Surgical Unit to its growing list of specialty services and therapy offerings, JCHC delivers a seamless continuum of care designed around the patient experience. The hospital continues to invest in services that meet the evolving needs of the community and remains actively involved in outreach efforts, wellness education, and local initiatives that extend its mission beyond the walls of the hospital.
Jefferson County Health Center remains committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care. For more information about services and providers, visit JeffersonCountyHealthCenter.org or call 641-472-4111.
