Live Wire Electric does the right thing the first time
Jun. 25, 2024 5:24 pm
Starting as a kid, Rodney Nelson had a dream of owning his own electrical business. His father had been an electrician. So as a high school senior he got into Cooperative Education class which allowed him to go to school half day and work half day. He was paired with Melvin Whitmore at Whitmore Electric.
From there, his journey took him to industrial maintenance at a couple local factories, while working the electrical business from home, and a stint with the National Guard to Germany. With a layoff from Meritor in the near future and Mel Whitmore wanting to retire it was the perfect opportunity to purchase his own electrical business. So Live Wire Electric went from a part-time business, started in 1992, to full-time in 2000 at 2909 West Grimes in Fairfield.
Live Wire prides itself on doing the right thing the first time. They have many projects to look at and be proud such as the Cambridge buildings one and two, the Fairfield Arts and Convention Center, USDA buildings in Fairfield, Keosauqua and Mt. Pleasant, Washington State Bank, many beautiful new homes, and remodels too many to count. It is that determination to do right by the customer that keeps the business thriving.
Live Wire Electric, owned by Rod and Bev Nelson, does residential, commercial and agriculture electrical work. In 2008 the State of Iowa required that all electricians be licensed, Rod has held his Master Electrician license since 1991, and takes professional classes to keep up with the latest trends and State changes in the rules.
