Mack’s Automotive offers innovative technology

FAIRFIELD — Since opening in 1959, Mack’s Automotive has been a leader in the automotive repair businesses in Fairfield under the leadership of three generations thanks to its cutting-edge equipment and service-oriented staff.
Following in the footsteps of his grandfather Daryl McDowell, who originally opened the collision repair shop, and his father, Doug McDowell, who took over from 1979 to 1995, Jason Craun, current owner, reopened the body shop in 2019.
One reason Mack’s Automotive has had such success since Craun reopened it five years ago is its Global Finishing Solutions paint booth. The booth can bake a fresh coat of paint for 25 minutes, and after letting it set for just another 20 minutes, it’s ready for reassembly. Craun said this is so much faster than it was in the ‘70s and ‘80s when workers had to wait a whole day for paint to dry.
According to Craun, Mack’s Automotive plans to continue the success of its paint booth business by adding a second Global Finishing Solutions paint booth that’s even larger at 60 feet (current one is 27 feet) and can accommodate coaches, campers, semis and buses. The collision repair shop is currently working with contractors in hopes of breaking ground on this addition by the end of the year.
In addition to the paint booth, Mack’s Automotive has a REVO Infrared Curing System, with both the single and dual head. It performs a full cure on filler in nine minutes, full cure on primer in six minutes, and eliminates shrinkage when the paint is baked on.
“Our skill set and our experience in the shop makes us special,” Craun said, “with the paint booth, spot welder, Snap On Zues+ diagnostics and Snap On tools. If you look at our Google reviews, you can see that we pride ourselves on quality of work, and customer service.”
