Merit Auctions opens headquarters in Fort Madison, Iowa

Merit Auctions brings a staff of over 100 years of combined auction and real estate experience to its current location at 4502 Ave. O Unit 8.

Auction Manager Jim Huff said being headquartered in Fort Madison makes sense, logistics-wise “for what we’re trying to do here, trying to concentrate ourselves on the Iowa, Missouri and Illinois marketplace for auction and real estate business.”

Huff, along with Zach Hiner and John Probasco are the core staff, along with others who have been in the auction business for a number of years as well.

What makes Merit Auctions special, Huff said, was the large amount of experience.

“There’s several of us that have had auctions from the east coast to the west coast and north to south, so we’re experienced in all facets of the auction and real estate business, as far as that goes,” he said, “whether it be farm, farm ag real estate or farm equipment or business liquidations or whatever the case is.”

The location at The Plaza is temporary, Huff said, and the group is looking for a permanent location.

“This all kind of came about in a short period of time,” he said, “and we’re just trying to get our feet underneath of us for right now.”

The group also has an office in Indiana.

In a press release, Hiner, an auctioneer and real estate broker, stated the group is “excited to bring our customers a top-tier auction experience with services including onsite support for setup, cleaning, picturing, loading out and more.”
