Reed Law stays with clients every step of the way

Joanne Reed of Reed Law in Fairfield is in the business of helping injured people.
A former complex corporate attorney, Reed stumbled into the field of personal injury and worker compensation law when an executive requested her help in a case for a relative who was injured in a motor vehicle accident.
“This poor kid was faced with fighting a huge insurance company with no one on his side as an advocate,” she said. “He was seriously injured and did not know what to do. It was really satisfying when I was able to successfully resolve the matter in his favor … It’s just nice knowing you’re helping this real person and not just this big corporate conglomerate of non-faces.”
While none of the work is easy, Reed always puts her clients’ interests first. She has a 24-hour callback policy, one of many things she does to stay in touch with her clients every step of the way.
“When I go home, it’s not the end of my day,” she said. “I’m a hands-on person, I’m not like most attorneys who meet their client once or sometimes never at all. I make the clients’ problems my own and I handle them that way. I make sure they have access to me most the time.”
Reed’s organizational skills are another key to her work success. While she has a top-notch staff to help manage her cases and move them to settlement or trial, she is the only attorney at the firm, currently handling 65 cases at once, each with the same level of care and communication.
Reed considers every part of her clients’ experience. To go the extra mile, she paid to have her office designed in feng shui, a traditional Chinese practice that balances indoor spaces by harmonizing the elements of water, wood, fire, metal and earth. The office has running water in the southeast corner of every room, as well as metal on the west walls and candles in the northeast corners.
“This is a philosophy, and I don’t know whether I believe or disbelieve it,” she said. “But when it’s done properly and you walk in the door, you’ll feel it. It gives clients that feeling when they walk in, they just feel so relaxed.”
