RPM Auto does what they love with meticulous care

RPM Automotive is a family-owned repair shop in Fairfield.

Co-owner Pam Melcher said working on cars had always been her husband’s passion. While that plan was fully recognized when he founded the repair shop in 1993, he first started working on cars at the age of 12.

“We grew up in the ‘70s so we had a lot of cool cars in that era,” she said. “A lot of nostalgic cars and hot rods and street cars, that kind of thing. That’s what inspired the career, and he started out doing what he loved.”

Melcher said the work was demanding, but that’s never dissuaded her husband from giving it his all.

“It does take a toll, in our occupation,” she said. “It’s 12-hour days. He’s usually at work, he leaves home at six o’clock … and a lot of times he’s not home until 6:30 at night. It is a demanding career, and it takes a lot of time.”

Melcher said that passion was what set RPM apart. The business holds itself to the highest standard, no matter the task.

“How he would expect his car to be worked on is how he expects them to work on a car,” she said. “We try to give people a personal experience, and we always try to do a job well done regardless of whether it’s changing windshield wipers or putting in a new engine. Every job has equal importance.”
