Since April 1995, Mt. Pleasant REC Center has provided a family fitness and recreation center with a strong commitment toward personalized service and attention for those seeking to achieve a healthier lifestyle through their various offerings of classes, equipment, and programs along with numerous community partnerships.
The REC Center always found support in the Mt. Pleasant community and as a nonprofit organization, with a heartbeat for people, they will continue to reciprocate that support.
They recently saw this support from members during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
“In coming back, we saw a lot of donations,” Duffie said. “A lot of people left their membership going even though they weren't attending because they wanted to support the REC Center.”
As the REC Center offers events like the Turkey Trot and pop-up kick boxing or hot yoga classes, the community continues to show their support.
Through this support, the REC Center provides new and exciting fitness options alongside a communal atmosphere that brings people together.
“You can just see it even after class,” Duffie said. “We’re here socializing and having coffee and just creating that environment for people to not only be physically fit, but also have that social connection to other people.”
“I think that's priceless, and it speaks volumes to our staff and what we're doing here, and that people are able to do that and find this as a hub of their daily lives,” he said.
The REC Center is more than a gym. It is a place for community.
