KALONA - A Southeast Iowa Super Conference Shootout pitted the North Division's No. 3 Hillcrest against the South No. 3 Notre Dame Friday and the South eked out a 34-29 win.
Trailing 31-29 late, the Ravens missed two opportunities to tie and Notre Dame iced it on free throws with 11 seconds left.
Knotted at 9-9 after one quarter, it was ND 16-14 at the half, 26-25 to start the fourth. A defensive battle turned into a slowdown by the visitors, forcing Hillcrest to eventually foul.
Eli Ours led Hillcrest with 13 points, and Aiden Schrock scored nine. Hershberger crashed the boards for 13 rebounds, and Ours had team-highs of three steals and three assists.
'With the foul situation, and we had guys really step up to help us off the bench,” Hillcrest coach Dwight Gingerich said. 'Our defense kept us in it.”
