Predicament rankings out for high schools

The New London High School wrestling team dropped a few spots from its slot at No. 5 in the initial rankings by the predicament.

The Tigers fell to seventh in the Class 1A rankings.

The rankings are merely educated guesses about a team or individual while the state tournament is the chance to prove the numbers right - or wrong if one was never recognized with a ranking.

There are always differing opinions on rankings,

Wrestlers' rankings can depend on many things. Evaluation of each one may be different. Sometimes rankings are a culmination of years of hard work, sometimes it's a depleted weight class. Oftentimes reputation matters with respect for a team, an area of the state, a conference or coaches.

The Tigers have four wrestlers ranked in the Top 10 of their respective weights. Currey Jacobs, 195 pounds, is ranked eighth, dropping from fourth. New London teammates Marcel Lopez is No. 1 at 120 while brother and teammate Dominic Lopez dropped out of the top spot and is at No. 2 at 145. Josh Glendenning dropped two spots and is now at No. 10 at 152.

Highland had two wrestlers mentioned with Easton Schlabaugh at No. 6. The sophomore was at No. 5 in the 106-pound category previously. Bryce Thompson remains at No. 8 at 113, although his win over a ranked Class 2A wrestler Saturday should move the needle on his numbers.

Also in Class 1A was Sigourney-Keota's Jack Clarahan dropping from seventh to eighth at 160 pounds.

Pekin's Mason Juhl remains at eighth at 182 pounds.

In Class 2A, Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union's Lane Scorpil is not second at 106 anymore. He is fifth at 113.
