Mount Pleasant has a long and proud history, and today I am deeply honored to share that another chapter is being written. For the first time in our city’s history, a woman is running for the office of mayor. That woman is me.
To be the first is both a privilege and a responsibility. It is a privilege because I know I stand at a threshold where barriers are being broken, and new possibilities are opening for future generations. It is a responsibility because this campaign is about more than my name on a ballot — it is about representing the voices of women, families, small business owners, and community members who want to see Mount Pleasant thrive.
When we think of history, we often think of moments that happen elsewhere or long ago. But history is being made here and now, in our own community. My candidacy represents an opportunity for us to step into that history together, to choose leadership that reflects the strength, resilience, and vision of Mount Pleasant itself.
Being the first woman to run for mayor is not about personal recognition. It is about possibility. It is about ensuring that our daughters and granddaughters grow up knowing that leadership is within their reach. It is about our community seeing that the qualities of compassion, collaboration, and courage are not only welcome in leadership, but essential to it.
This campaign is not just about being first. It is about being better, better in how we listen, better in how we work together, and better in how we shape the future of our town. Together, we can write a new chapter of Mount Pleasant’s story, one of inclusion, progress, and hope.
Respectfully,
Kasey Conrad, Mt. Pleasant
